About

HCA Healthcare is one of the largest healthcare providers in the United States. Founded in 1968 and based in Nashville, Tennessee, it runs around 186 hospitals and 2,000 sites of care, from surgery centers and emergency rooms to urgent care centers and physician clinics, across 21 US states and the United Kingdom.

I worked on HCA Healthcare Careers, the website where nurses, physicians and other professionals explore careers and apply for jobs across HCA's hospitals and facilities. I was part of a large international team at EPAM Systems, working as a UX Designer.

02

The Challenge

At HCA's scale, the careers site has to connect thousands of openings, hundreds of facilities and many job families with very different people: nursing students looking for their first role, experienced clinicians, physicians, and military veterans moving into civilian careers.

Each of them needs to find relevant roles quickly, understand what a program or location offers, and feel confident enough to apply.

03

My Role

What I did

  • User research to inform UX decisions
  • Wireframes for key page types, from job search to program and location pages
  • Design documentation for the development team
  • Contributions to the design system, so new pages stay consistent

The project is under NDA, so the details here are kept at a high level.

04

Search and Discovery

Search sits at the top of every page: candidates can look for jobs by title, keyword or MOS (military occupation code) and narrow them down by location. The main navigation offers other ways in, by job family, program, event or location, and candidates can save jobs or join the talent network to come back later.

05

Programs and Locations

Program pages, such as the Nurse Residency Program, open with what the program is and a direct link to its openings, then break the benefits into short, scannable points: clinical training, learning resources and clear career paths.

Location pages show how many openings there are in each state and list the facilities behind them, with addresses and contact details, so candidates can decide where they want to work.

06

Design System

The site covers many page types, from search results and job families to programs, events and locations, so consistency mattered. I documented the designs for developers and contributed reusable components to the design system, keeping new pages consistent and responsive across desktop, tablet and mobile.
